Police 'Can't Help' on Leaflet Hijack

The police attache to the electoral commission has told the NSN Independent candidates that there isn't any action that can be taken on a leaflet posted to hundreds of homes bearing the image of a Newton Says No poster on one side and text purporting to be from Ukip on the other.

A Ukip spokesman locally denied any knowledge of the leaflet and said it had been reported to the central party office.

Attache David Buckley said the leaflet may be 'mischief' from a third party, intended to confuse voters and cost votes.  And we reitterate that it has nothing to do with us.

While we've tried our best to put it right across social media, a lot of people in these areas aren't big users, so damage limitation has been difficult. We would ask all supporters to let friends and family know.If people don't want to vote for our candidates, that's fine - but it's appalling that we should lose votes because people think we're allied to Ukip.

The leaflet has been part of a sustained attack on the NSN independent campaign, both in the street and online. Our candidates have also had a barrage of complaints made against them for 'irregularities' as members and supporters of rosetted parties (or so we're informed) try to catch them out. All so far have been dismissed.
